how do you get your drawing on the computer? Do you draw them on the computer or so you draw them on paper then scan it?
Some of my pieces are drawn on paper and scanned in, and others are done digitally using a drawing tablet. However using a drawing tablet is exactly the same as drawing on paper, only that you’re looking at the screen instead of what’s below you. It takes the same level of skill and hard work; so often I hear people go, “oh you do it on the computer? That’s not as good as pen and paper…”
Honestly, it’s exactly the same haha! The last little sketch I did was done on a drawing tablet. I don’t prefer one over the other, both have their good points and bad points - the bad points of the tablet at the moment being that I’m working on my laptop, and it gives you such a crick in the neck! Oy!
Or maybe someone should notice your awesome art and want to buy all of them for thousands of dollars, and you can become some kind of famous artist, lol
Haha! Oh man, I wish! This is why I get disheartened about that Thriller drawing (which I still stand by being a pretty throw-away type of drawing!) going around on tumblr with near 7000 notes now, but with absolutely no link back to me at all. People seem to like some of my work, but they don’t know that I was the one that drew it!
All of your work inpsires me to get back into my art. I miss being as creative as I used to be. Also, I run "China Love" aka janetdamitajo lol
Oh dude, I know that feeling! And then sometimes the thing that holds you back is, “am I still good? What if I don’t like what I draw!” type of thing. And let me tell you, that’s the hardest thing to get over. But just start small, just do some little sketches everyday and ease yourself back into it. I would LOVE to see your work if you pick it up again! Go for it dude. <3
Omg that sketch of (HIStory? I swear I know which photo it is) Mike you posted... I'm dead. The eyes are so real! You have such a gift.
Dude you totally guessed it haha! It’s this photo:
Man thank you so much for saying that though, for a while I really wanted to work on drawing eyes because I’ve been so lazy in the past and haven’t paid much attention to them. Drawing Michael’s eyes is the hardest though, they’re just so expressive!
How did you come up with the name youngearlgrey? :)
It’s actually a pretty lame story….haha!
Ages and ages ago, my mum was seeing this guy that claimed he had linage to some land/royalty somewhere in Britain. He was due to be the next Earl of whatever, and it was kind of a joke between us because he was so far from “Earl” material, haha! He wasn’t exactly old either, hence the “young” part. And even though I dislike hot tea and never really drink it, I always liked the “earl grey” name. So I kinda threw it all together in my mind and that’s what came out!

I’ve compiled a bunch of my drawings/sketches of Michael over the past two years, and decided to put them into a book that you guys can order straight from this site! I’ve done something through this before, and it’s super easy and it looks SUPER good. I’m talking quality paper and everything, and really sturdy materials. Admittedly I won’t get a lot of profit per sale (about ten dollars) but every cent counts, and if you’re stuck on trying to decide if you want to commission me or not or you’re just more interested in my MJ stuff, I’d love it so much if you’d order a copy!
….Also, I’ve just realised how obsessive I look right now over Michael Jackson. And this is just about a quarter of the stuff I’d done of him since 2008, haha! Oh boy.
Hiya, just wanted to say that Butterflies is one of my fave MJ songs.. and I think your illustration of the song is absolutely lovely :)
Oh me too! Isn’t it just magical? (Sorry to use a typical MJ phrase, but he’s right haha!) And thank you so much. I still need to work on it, it’s not exactly like what’s in my mind….sometimes it’s so hard trying to get it down on paper!
Sorry, but I'm really too curious: what kind of paper do you use for watercolors?
Oh man, I don’t even use the correct paper haha! That last piece I used just an A3 sketchbook with 110GSM acid free paper. But most of the time I use really thin, like scrapbook paper because I never want to draw anything on my good paper in case I ruin it, but the stuff I end up drawing on the bad paper I end up colouring and liking haha!
Just added a disclaimer to the side of my tumblr in regards to my drawings. I know it seems a bit over the top, but my artwork belongs to me and this is what I do for a living. If you repost my work, save it or copy it - even when you’re not claiming it as your own - it’s not okay, and yes I will be quite angry. For some other artists on tumblr, drawing may just be a hobby or a way to pass time (which is more than okay, there is some truly talented people out there and I really admire them!). But for me, this is my work. My job. My life. And when people steal my work, that’s taking away a part of me and my life.
So please think before you right click and save from my blog. I’ve watermarked most of my images now, so hopefully this problem will die down soon,
wow... I just happened upon your site for another and you are extremely talented. I am so sorry you work is being posted without your consent... your stuff is great can't wait to take a look at your posts.
Oh my gosh. I'm so glad you followed me, or I would've never been introduced to your art. You have no idea, I am an artist, but not like you. Your drawings are so simple, yet so...different and beautiful, they seem so easily sketched. It just blows my mind, so inspiring. Now I want to work my butt off to practice so maybe I can sketch as you do. Not exactly, because I'd never steal someones style...but...wow<3
Oh wow, thank you so much! I can’t even believe that I’d inspire someone else, because I feel that I’m just starting out, you know? I have a long way to go, I’m still learning myself!
To be honest, there are a lot of “dream” jobs that I would love to have. I would love to be Mary Poppins at Disneyland in California but I’m not british or cool enough to impersonate Julie Andrews. But realistically, I would love to have my own illustration company/freelance type of thing. I’m finding more and more however that I’m becoming interested in the fashion world. I would secretly love to have my own high end brand, or something really kooky and amazing like Alexander McQueen. Either way, I just want to get my ideas and vision out there.
